We are looking for an experienced Subsea Telecoms Cable Engineer with proven experience in submarine telecommunications cable projects, including both offshore operations and project office environments.

The successful candidate will provide technical support and oversight across the lifecycle of subsea cable projects, from marine survey and route engineering through cable installation, testing, commissioning, operations and maintenance. The role will work closely with technical managers, contractors and other project stakeholders to ensure that submarine cable systems are technically sound, constructable, maintainable and aligned with project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Marine Survey & Route Engineering: Support marine surveys, route engineering and technical assessments for submarine cable routes.
  • Cable Protection & Crossings: Manage technical aspects of cable protection, burial requirements and cable crossings.
  • Procurement & Contractor Management: Support procurement activities and coordinate with marine, engineering and installation contractors.
  • Installation Supervision & Support: Provide technical oversight and support during submarine cable installation and offshore marine operations.
  • Testing, Commissioning & Acceptance: Support testing, commissioning, system acceptance and resolution of technical issues.
  • Operations & Maintenance: Provide technical support for the operation and maintenance of submarine cable infrastructure.
  • Technical Coordination: Interface with Technical Managers and other project stakeholders to coordinate engineering and operational activities.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare and review technical documentation, project reports, risk assessments and other engineering deliverables.

Required Experience & Technical Competencies

  • Proven experience in submarine telecommunications cable systems, subsea cable projects, offshore cable projects or related marine infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of fibre-optic submarine cable systems, including repeatered systems, branching units, power feeding equipment and cable landing infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of marine survey, submarine cable route engineering, cable burial and cable protection techniques.
  • Familiarity with submarine cable installation methods, offshore marine operations and vessel-based activities.
  • Understanding of submarine cable crossings, third-party interface management and marine permitting processes.
  • Strong contractor management, problem-solving and technical coordination skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly to commercial, legal, regulatory and management teams.
  • Experience in technical risk management, documentation and project reporting.
  • Ability to work effectively across both project office and offshore environments.
  • Willingness and availability to travel to project locations and client meetings when required.

The Subsea Telecoms Cable Engineer will provide specialist technical oversight throughout the lifecycle of submarine cable projects, helping to ensure that the cable system is technically sound, constructable, maintainable and aligned with project requirements.

The role will contribute to reducing engineering, installation, permitting and operational risks through effective technical coordination, contractor management, project support and engineering expertise.

Location & Working Arrangements

  • Location: Barcelona, Spain
  • Project office-based role with the possibility of remote working during certain periods.
  • Availability to travel to offshore project locations, work sites and client meetings when required.
  • The role may involve occasional offshore or project-site assignments depending on project requirements.
